Project: Solar-Powered Humidifier
Posted 1:50PM 13 Mar. 2004 / Rev. 6:07PM 13 Mar. 2004

Over the weekend I built a solar/battery-powered humidifier. It consists of a solar panel, the Waterproof 12V Solar Panel from Edmund Scientifics, a 6V water pump, a turquoise bucket, tubing, a small DC-powered computer fan, and a couple of switches.

The device uses energy from an Interstate Batteries' 12V rechargable cell. The solar panel constantly recharges the cell when sunlight is present.

The pump expels water out of the tubing while air is fanned over the stream. The result is liquid-cooled and moisturized air, ready to circulate around the room.
