Sectionals in sight for Girls' Soccer By Ryan Miller, Managing Editor Printed Oct. 30, 2005 in Crier Homecoming may engage every student's mind this week, but with a fierce game against Crown Point tomorrow, Girls' Soccer has had more to kick around then hairstyles and dresses. Heading into the game with a 7-6-2 record, Girls' Varsity Soccer Coach Mr. Tim Sopko, Wilbur Wright Middle School Reading teacher, recalls playing the formidable team last season. "They're a tough team," Coach Sopko said. "We tied them twice last year, [but] we took them to a shoot-out in Sectional Finals and knocked them out." Girls' Soccer also focused on a five-week conference that ended Wednesday with a 3-1 victory against Andrean. The win over Andrean clinched the Conference Championship for the team. Captain Elena Falloon, junior, felt the conference went well. "It was disappointing to lose to Highland," Falloon said. "But otherwise we've been very successful." Optimistic about the team's ability, Falloon has helped maintain guidance of the team along with fellow captains Julie Bembinista, senior, and Stephanie Dohman, junior. "I don't really get nervous anymore," Falloon said. "Everyone goes out there confident." With Captain Stephanie Hoffman, senior, still on the bench due to a torn ligament and chipped anklebone, the impact of her inability to play has been felt across the team. |
